Studies show that probiotics can help with symptoms of IBS and that the gut microbiome may play a role in inflammatory bowel disease.

Immunity

70% of our immune system is housed in the gut where bacteria help to train and maintain it from birth.

Stress, Anxiety, Depression

Stress can affect gut microbes, but gut bacteria may also be able to combat it.

Why are gut bacteria so important for health?

Every health journey starts in the gut

Your gut is home to trillions of bacteria. If they are not happy, your body won't be either.
Junk food, stress, antibiotics and illness can deplete the microbes that guard your body, leaving room for less helpful bacteria that can have knock-on effects for your health.
70% of your immune system lies in the gut
4 in 10 Brits are suffering from at least one digestive symptom at any time.
Do the test, see how healthy your microbiome is, and find out how to manage and improve dysbiosis. Then, work with a nutritionist, and follow your personalised food strategies to eat your way to wellness with the Atlas Microbiome Test.
Doctors call this "dysbiosis". It is a state associated with digestive symptoms, chronic illnesses like diabetes and obesity, and even autoimmune diseases, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

I am very happy finding out about atlas biomed, as I wasn't having any success with my G.P. In the future I hope to purchase the gene test. Thank you very much for your help.

This is a serious, thorough, but friendly and honest service, attempting to help us make sense of the bewildering amount of information that goes into keeping us healthy, through what we eat and what our gut makes of it...and how to become healthier through choosing a diverse plant-based diet. Atlas appears to be a well run, efficient, organisation, who actually do as they say they'll do, keep in touch, and answer questions.

Just received the results of my gut microbiome tests. I was very impressed with the service. The emails before the results were analysed were especially helpful. The results were broken down in such a way that it was all so easy to understand with recommendations of what to eat to improve the quality of your microbiome.

Frequently asked questions

What is a microbiome test and how does it work?
We need a tiny amount of your poop to test your gut microbiome. But don't worry, it is better than it sounds. Each home test kit has an instruction manual and all you need to take the test.
Once you've collected your sample and registered your kit in the personal account, all you have to do is to place your sample in a prepaid box ready to post to the lab and drop it in your nearest postbox. From the moment you send it back, it takes about 4−6 weeks for your sample to be analysed and your results to be uploaded to your account. Then you can access them from the app or your browser.

Your kit will arrive in 2−3 business days.
The test will be delivered to your doorstep within 2−3 business days.
It takes 4−6 weeks to get the test results.
Your results will be uploaded to your personal account about 4−6 weeks after your sample arrives at the laboratory. Often, our turn-around time is about 3.5 weeks, so you will most likely get your results before the 6 weeks are over.
You'll receive an email as soon as your results have been uploaded to your account. Please contact Customer support via [email protected] if it has been more than 6 weeks since you sent your sample to us.

Does the microbiome test check for H. pylori?
Our test is not designed to detect Helicobacter pylori infections, which typically affect the stomach. The microbiome test is intended to analyse the bacterial composition of the colon (also known as the large intestine). A H. pylori diagnosis requires a specific test that can only be prescribed by your doctor.
Does the microbiome test check for pathogenic bacteria/parasites?
The Atlas Microbiome Test is not intended for the purposes of the detection and identification of infectious diseases. The focus of the test is the composition of non-pathological bacteria.
Customers who have received treatment for confirmed diagnoses, we recommend consulting your healthcare professional about the appropriateness of taking this test.

Can the microbiome test tell me if I have leaky gut, yeast overgrowth or Candida?
The microbiome test does not check for leaky gut or yeast overgrowth (including candida). It is designed to help you to understand if you have a well-balanced microbiome and how to improve it. It includes a list of all bacteria detected in your microbiome and their representation (%).
Are there any medical restrictions before taking a sample for a microbiome test?
We recommend that you collect a stool sample in the absence of temporary gastrointestinal symptoms.
If gastrointestinal symptoms and medication are part of your every day life, you may proceed to take the test without waiting because your sample would be representative of your typical microbiome.
If your symptoms and medication are only temporary and you take our Microbiome test, the results provided, as well as the food recommendations may no longer be valid once your course is completed or symptoms have cleared up because your microbiome can change significantly as a result of medication or illness.

Does the test kit have an expiry date?
The best-before date can be found on the collection tube inside the kit. Our kits are usually valid for 6 months — 2 years after purchase. So once you've purchased a test or two, you don't have to take them immediately. They will still be valid for at least 6 months after purchase.
Can I do the microbiome test if I am taking probiotics or prebiotics?
If you are trying to improve your gut health with supplements like probiotics or prebiotics, you can use the microbiome test to track how your gut bacteria respond by taking our before-and-after test bundle. This will show you how these supplements affect your microbiome and whether they are worth spending money on.
Is the microbiome test suitable for kids?
The Atlas Microbiome Test is only for use by adults over 18 years old. The microbiome of children changes and evolves during infancy, childhood, and adolescence and this isn't accounted for in our interpretation system, which is why our test is not suitable for children.
Does taking antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory painkillers affect the results?
If you have been taking antibiotics, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory painkillers, or have undergone surgery, please wait three months before taking the Atlas Biomed Microbiome Test.
